Lest We Forget

On Wednesday 11th November, we remembered our fallen heroes.

We hosted the Old Strandians Association who are ex-soldiers who used to attend Elm Court School when it was known as the Strand School. Members of the School Council and fellow students greeted and then sat with the ex-soldiers and together they observed the two-minute silence.

  • 1,440,500 Indians fought for Britain during the First World War

CARRIBBEAN

  • 15,000 soldiers from the West Indies Regiment saw action in France, Palestine, Egypt and Italy during the First World War.

AFRICA

  • Africans from many countries served with the Allied forces. 55,000 men served as combatant soldiers and many hundreds of thousands more as carriers and auxiliary troops.

IRELAND

  • In all, about 210,000 Irishmen served in the British forces during World War One.
